Beauty and the beast.

All sorts of things come to the moth light at night, many are beautiful, others not quite so. On Thursday night I had two specimens of the carrion beetle, Ptomaphila lacrimosa call, even the name’s got sinister vibes!

The night before a quite beautiful small moth came in, its name is Euchaetis rhizobola, and the larvae feed on eucalypts. Only good vibes with this one.

Still, I guess they all have a job to do. All beautiful next, wildflowers again.
Really don’t know when I’ll get back to birds again, so much going on at this time of year. Maybe after Sunday’s outing with the Heyfield birders.
I don’t know about beast – I’m a moth fan myself but I reckon that beetles is the star of the show!
Until you read about its lifestyle Alan!
lacrimosa … maybe it mourns the carcases? They are both very handsome animals, but my vote is with the beetle. Despite its behaviour.
Snail, I just hope it was attracted by the light, and not yours truly.
LOL – yep I know the lifestyle. In Britain I used to look for them under dead gulls, pine martens, rabbits.etc
