The good news is that I’ve finished that job that’s had me tied up for days. The bad news is that it is very very dry. A walk through the garden this evening saw me crunching through the dead leaves and twigs that litter the ground after the hot, dry, gale force wind we had yesterday. However I got a picture, one of the tachinid flies, Senostoma longipes, was resting on the trunk of of a brittle gum in the evening light. They’re a beneficial insect, the larvae help to keep caterpillars under control by feeding on them.

It’s going to be hot and windy again tomorrow, but I’m going to break the birding drought, Peter and I are going back to The Green Gully.

Those are the longest legs I’ve ever seen on an otherwise normal-looking fly!
