In which we think about a beetle..
Jul 18th, 2008 by Duncan
Hmm, that’s an interesting little beetle, I wonder how it came to be inside sitting on the window frame, pretty pattern on its back. Might take a photo of it directly, have a cup of tea first.
Hello, there’s that beetle again, on the kitchen window sill now, I was going to photograph it a few days ago, went right out of my head, better do it now. I’ll just slip a piece of paper under it and take it outside, the light’s better out there. It’s small, only about 7 mill. nose to tail, looks like a species of Paropsis, knowing me though I could be wrong.
Funny, it didn’t move inside, but now that it’s outside it won’t stop walking, perhaps I’ll try putting it on the brick wall. That’s better, it stops when it gets to a joint, maybe if I just move it in a little bit I’ll be able to grab a quick shot. Got it, I’ll go straight in and look at it on the monitor, might make a blog post.

… and a very nice beetle too. Chrysophtharta could be another possible genus. I don’t know what separates them.
Yes, similar aren’t they Alan, thanks for the tip. Seemed a bit out of season for a paropsis, they usually come after the christmas beetles and continue the defoliation of the red gums.
Nice little beetle, Duncan!
I reckon it’s probably a Chysomelid of some description and could be Paropsis sp.
Clearly it responded to being liberated, Duncan.
We should call it a Liberopsis.
Denis
And I meant Chrysomelid…
Good idea Denis, and JL, we knew what you meant, you were just typing too fast for the computer to keep up with.
beautiful beetle…
’tis that, CGP!
