Another warm one before the change.

Although not as hot as predicted, top temperature in the shade only reached 37 C and it looks as if the cool change is on its way. The day started with a hot nor-easterly that quickly swung around to the nor-west, and the tomatoes didn’t like it, drooping their new foliage even though I watered them last night. The shallow water bowls have been visited by Brown Thornbills and Superb Fairy Wrens, (to give them their proper name, I still call ‘em Blue Wrens) and the Willie Wagtails and Magpie-larks haven’t been far away from the deep bowl either. The window glass attracted the usual variety of insects including ichneumon flies that again were too good for me. Had to be content with this creature. I’ll get an ichneumon one day though!

Well, the welcome cool change hit at 3 PM, coming in from the south-west, and it was soon much more comfortable. The wind was strong and the Gang-gangs in the yellow gum had to really hold on tight, backs to the wind and heads tucked in. We’ve got six in the garden at the moment, delightful.

The change was accompanied by lightning and thunder, and right in the middle of it three Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos went wailing over, riding the gale. The old timers say they’re a sign of rain, well they didn’t do their job this time, we got a very meagre sprinkle, not enough to lay the dust.
