A moth or three.
May 30th, 2009 by Duncan
With the colder weather here, mothing has been pretty much a waste of time and electricity for the light, but it was a little warmer a few nights ago so I flicked the switch and lit up the verandah for a couple of hours. Plenty of small insects came in to have a look, but very few moths, however one was quite interesting. Cosmodes elegans has been a fairly regular visitor, it’s an attractive moth with green swirls over a brown background, but this one was quite different
Two others that arrived for a portrait session were also old friends, Nyctemera amicus and Agrotis munda. I’d photographed them many times before, but never look a gift horse in the mouth, it will be months before the mothing action heats up again. There’s always a silver lining though, maybe I’ll be able to work on identifications during the off season. I think that’s enough colourful old sayings for now, time to take my nose off the grindstone. ![]()
