Occasionally when mothing, a Praying Mantis flies in to join the party and it’s comical to watch. It can only be described as akin to a small boy in a well stocked lolly shop. The sheet is always covered with small moths as well as a multitude of other small insects, and the mantis walks around completely unable to make a choice from all the delectable morsels in the insect smorgasbord. Such was the case with this one the other night, and I had to smile. I took the first photo while it was undecided, and the second perhaps half an hour later when it had climbed to the top of the projector screen I use as a sheet backing, it had then finally made a choice and was enjoying supper, a juicy moth.
