More moths.

Some interesting moths are starting to turn up now that autumn is here, the other night I got an old friend that goes by the impressive name of Monoctenia smerintharia, we reckon it looks like a miniature stealth bomber.

It’s a Geometrid as is this next one, the Bracken Moth, Idiodes apicata, as the name suggests the larvae feed on bracken fern, Pteridium esculentum.

The third one is another familiar one, they were around in thousands last year, the common name is the Heliotrope Moth, Utetheisa pulchelloides. It’s a good moth to have around, as one of the food plants for the larvae is Paterson’s Curse, a bad weed species that is proliferating in the district.
