Rain, beautiful rain, 18 millimetres after a long dry spell, and enough I hoped to bring some of those big beautiful moths out of their subterranean tunnels under the garden eucalypts. Alas, not enough it seems, the moth light burnt for three nights without attracting one, but last night at least I got a nice selection of moths from the Noctuoid family, in addition to the usual scrum of assorted small Pyralids etc. The first to appear was from the Arctiidae, Spilosoma curvata.

Three more familiar ones turned up next, Persectania ewingii, Proteuxoa tortisigna, and Proteuxoa sanguinipuncta, the latter hyperactive and hard to catch up with, but patience won the day.

The final two I’m not sure about, I’m only a novice at this game and I need to put in a bit more work to try and identify them, so for now it’s pictures only.
