To call someone a Galah is a derogatory term meaning they are a bit silly or lacking in sense. Well, after watching the Galahs feeding in the garden I think that’s most unfair to these handsome birds that go about their business quietly, for the most part respecting their companions’ personal space. They are feeding in bare patches on the dry ground, possibly finding seeds of the introduced capeweed that grew there when there was some moisture in the soil. I saw Galahs in this district for the first time in 1968, a pair sitting in a dead tree in the early morning light, quite beautiful. Since then of course they have multiplied and are now a normal part of the avian landscape, as I’ve noted before in earlier posts. Click to enlarge.
